HockeyHKWS 25-26 Circular No. 13 - Premier Division Goalkeeper Passport Program
Dear Convenors,
We are pleased to announce the continuation of the Premier Division Goalkeeper Passport Program as part of our ongoing efforts to develop specialist positions and provide greater opportunities for goalkeepers to develop into the Premier Division.
As part of our broader goal to improve standards and align with FIH rules, we are also working towards introducing team structures for the 26/27 season that will allow 16 field players and 2 goalkeepers in Premier Division matches. This change highlights the importance of developing goalkeeping talent and ensuring clubs are prepared for future requirements.
Recognizing the unique challenges of fielding goalkeepers, this initiative offers flexible solutions for clubs while fostering growth and creating opportunities for players in this specialist position.
Program Overview
The Premier Division Goalkeeper Passport Program allows clubs in the Premier Division to "passport" goalkeepers when their own goalkeeper is unavailable for a match. This continuation of the scheme is designed to support all Premier teams, ensuring competitive and safe play while enhancing the development of goalkeepers.
Participation Details
Eligible Clubs: All club teams across Premier Divisions only.
Passport Goalkeepers: Players who are not currently registered with a Saturday Premier Division team and are interested in playing as goalkeepers for Premier Division clubs when needed.
Selection Process
Clubs and goalkeepers interested in the program are invited to express their interest by completing the Google Form.
This is not a fixed pairing; goalkeeper assignments will be determined based on the specific needs of clubs and the availability of goalkeepers on a match-by-match basis.
Clubs will have the final decision in selecting a goalkeeper if more than one is available for a specific match.
Any movement of goalkeepers must be clearly recorded on the match card and communicated to all captains and umpires before the start of the match.
We believe this program will continue to benefit the hockey community by enhancing the quality of play, providing more opportunities for goalkeepers, and supporting clubs in managing their teams effectively.
If any club has questions about the scheme or faces challenges related to goalkeeping, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
Thank you for your continued support!
Kind regards,
HockeyHKWS
